Diagnostics

So I had a huge amount (well it looked like a lot of bottles anyway) of blood taken out this morning.  That didn't worry me nearly as much as the having to fast for 14 hours beforehand.

Hungry didn't begin to describe it!

Taking my own advice

This is going to be a long story I think...

I'm 48 years old.  I have a good steady job in IT and love my family and cars.  I enjoy a cold beer, although if you give me the choice I'll probably take the red instead.  Life should pretty much perfect.

But it's not.  I'm a hypocrit.  I've been ignoring the signs that something is not quite right with me.  Some of the the bits don't work as reliably or as well as I'd like them to.  Yet I signed up for Movember which is all about Men's health and getting us guys to take some ownership of our health and lifestyle in general.

So I am writing this, just having sat with the doctor and he's ordered a whole load of tests.

"Any diabetes in your family?" - Umm, yeah.  Pretty much everyone
"Heart disease?" - That took out my maternal grandfather so that's a yes.
"Anything else I should know?" - Well my father was diagnosed with haemochromotosis a year ago.  Does that count?

More pages of tests get drawn up.

Guys.  If your car wasn't running right you'd get it looked at, right?  Why don't we look after our bodies the same way?

To be continued...
